Staying relevant or fresh in the minds of key publics in the information age that we live in today can present quite a challenge for most people, particularly with the way we are always bombarded with all manner of information, most of which people really do not require for personal progress. Te truth is there is too much information around for one person to take in at every given time. They are coming at us from all angles, from our Television sets to our mobile communication devices. All these I believe have contributed to the shortening of the attention span of the average individual out there. And it’s all because the most important battle happens in the minds of people. Here are just a few steps that might help you in winning the battle of relevance in the minds of your audience.
• Know where the world is now, and where the world is going: Your ability to adequately speculate where the world is going be it in your sphere of influence, or in an industry. This can only be done by being an avid reader, and a strong researcher. • In the “Now”, what appeals the most to your audience? Is it TV? (A particular show or type of shows, e.g., Reality TV, Music? Jazz or Hip- Hop, Video games, Religion, etc Know it and find an existing platform, or create a platform and find a way to engage them on that platform or find a way to draw them to that platform) • Express yourself! Say what is on your mind. There is a lot going on in the minds of people out there, and it is always good to find a way to vent your opinions. Everybody has an opinion about something, from a current occurrence to a field of endeavor. It could be you personal ranting about a resent happening in your life, or your clearly defined opinion about a field of endeavor. Please note, these two are not the same, though they are personal and are likely to be influenced by certain experiences, what would make tem different would be the PURPOSE, the WHY, or the pre-determined reason for venting. The first might be just for fun, while the other might be for the establishment of Thought leadership. Take it or leave it, “Until you are perceived as a thought leader, you are not a leader” and your opinion would not matter in the immediate, if it matters at all.
